Robert De Niro’s grandson, Leandro De Niro, passed away in July 2023, with his mother sharing the news on Instagram. The young man’s death was announced just weeks after De Niro welcomed his seventh child.
As tributes to the family poured in and fans shared their condolences with the family, Drena grieved privately without sharing any further news. Until now, there had been no news about how or where Leandro died.
Law enforcement officials revealed what they believe to be the cause of death after Leandro was found sitting up in a chair in a one-bedroom apartment at the Cipriani Club Residences on Wall Street.
Initially, after a friend was concerned when he hadn’t heard from Leandro in a couple of days and went to check on him but found him dead, law enforcement officers could see no obvious signs leading to his death.
However, a later examination revealed that he was surrounded by drugs and drug paraphernalia when he was found. Leandro’s death is now being investigated as an overdose. Since her first post, Drena has shared another.
She shared a black and white photo of her laughing son on Instagram and talked about her feelings, saying:
“You didn’t deserve to die like this, but I can only believe that God needed a strong, powerful angel in their army.”
